Hey everyone,

First of all, we want to express our appreciation for how quickly those Hanukkah tickets sold. For a moment there, we thought we were U2 or playing in the World Series or something.

But second of all, and the main reason we’re writing, is to point you toward the WFMU auction, already underway. Among the amazing prizes available for a generous donation to WFMU (Urinals set list, anyone?) is the opportunity to sing a song with us at some point during Hanukkah. Not only do you get two tickets to one of the shows, but you get to experience the raw excitement of a sound check! And help WFMU!! As Hot Chocolate put it so eloquently, “Louie, Louie, Louie, Lou-I.” I mean, every 1’s a winner.

Here’s the link, and good luck.

Special Back-to-School Edition

Thanks to Lisa for alerting us to one of our youngest, and most discerning, fans. Must confess to not sharing Henry’s enthusiasm for the Star Wars movies, but he hit the bull’s-eye with his appreciation of garbage trucks, bike riding and bagels.

Our posts have been few and far between lately, but we hope you don’t misinterpret our media blackout as a sign of inactivity on our part.  Quite the opposite.  Just last weekend, we were hired by the struggling New York Mets to travel to South Bend, Indiana, to undertake some clandestine scouting of the Arizona Diamondbacks’ (or the dB’s, as we prefer to think of them) class A affiliate.  Thanks to Wilco for helping to get us behind enemy lines.  Here are a few shots of Georgia, me and James in disguise.

If you’re following us on Twitter, I don’t have to tell you that we show up in the most surprising places.  But what if you’re looking for something more, oh I don’t know, tactile, as Dudley Moore once put it so eloquently.  Imagine our surprise when the June 17 edition of The Nashville Scene arrived in our mailbox, specifically their review of the Holland House, specifically the following:

If you know anything at all about us, it’s probably our fondness for the buttery finish.  So thanks, Holland House, this is making it easier to wait out the change of seasons at Lantern when it’s too warm for the Autumn Sweater (housemade black pepper-vanilla rum and pear nectar) and too early for the Yo La Mango (mango purée, lemongrass, sake & vodka, served straight up with lemon).

We interrupt the printing of boarding passes to Barcelona to share a photo sent to us by David.  He’s not specific about when this was taken, so we can only hope that it was at last night’s stirring 8-0 triumph over the Phillies.  Nice to know that misspellings aren’t the sole province of rock club marquees, but then again not so surprising.  After all, this is an organization that thinks Queens is one of the five boroughs of New York Citi.
