Sentimentalists to the end, we bid our too-fond-for-words farewell to Maxwell’s last night with a set by the Condo Fucks. Which means we need a new home base, and we’re not ruling anything out. Correspondents Gabriel and José think they may have found the right place in Murcia, Spain. The down side is it’s a shoe store, but it does have a certain no lo sé.

Do you like stories? If not just skip to the end.
The year was 1996. Georgia, James, and I–accompanied by our young ward, Bruce Bennett–travel to East Orange, NJ, and in return for pledges to WFMU attempt, emphasis attempt, to play your requests. Did it go well? Historians and grammarians have worked round the clock ever since, trying in vain to answer that question. Meanwhile, Yo La Tengo have participated in every WFMU marathon–one year a cancelled flight stranded Bruce in Austin; another year a brutal case of the flu put Georgia on the DL.
Cut to: present day. Station Manager Ken Freedman inexplicably does not consult with us about our touring schedule, and consequently the 2013 WFMU Marathon is taking place in its entirety while we are touring Europe. Unless, in fact, Ken did this explicitly to keep us from our annual appearance. In which case, the joke’s on him (not to mention the WFMU listener).
Ladies and gentlemen, live from Berlin, Yo La Tengo and cub reporter Bruce Bennett will be taking your requests in return for your generous pledge to the Only Radio Station that Matters. Thursday at 9 a.m. EDT (or thereabouts), we will occupy the Hello Children program with your host Faye and your co-host Gaylord Fields. Go here right now and make your pledge and make your request. Fear not, your requests will remain hermetically sealed until airtime. Fulsome apologies in advance, and thank you for supporting WFMU!

Perhaps mistaking our Electr-o-pura song “Don’t Say a Word (Hot Chicken #2)” as a suggestion to keep Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack a local secret, for much too long the James Beard Foundation has failed to acknowledge these Nashville culinary daredevils. But no longer! Congratulations, Prince’s, on being selected one of 2013′s America’s Classics.

A Collection of Interviews & Press What-Nots compiled by Nick “Stewey” Morehouse, YLT personal chef/webmaster
• They won’t publish any of ol’ Stewey’s letters to the editor, but Bon Appetit chatted with Ira about their first music video in fifteen years.
• Ira & James were on MTV’s The Hivecast With Matt Pinfield.
• And if you missed it, they were on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” with special guests Kid Millions and Fred Armisen. [EDIT: it seems the videos have since expired, but you can still watch the bonus drum-off with Questlove]:

If you haven’t been driving in L.A. lately, you may not be aware that we have a new record coming out. Tomorrow, to be precise. And we’re wasting no time before what the great Steve Somers might term commencing with the meeting and the greeting. Look for us tonight at 7 pm at Barnes & Noble in Union Square, and at your favorite west coast record store later this week (so long as your favorite store is either Fingerprints in Long Beach, Easy Street’s Queen Anne location, or Amoeba in both Hollywood and SF). Are you somewhere else? Not to worry–we’ll be on your tv at the conclusion of tomorrow night’s edition of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Anybody got any questions for Charlie Sheen? Consider springing for the lp, sporting what some are calling “the coolest album cover since Wish You Were Here.”

Stewey interrupts your Fade streaming to bring you the latest…
• Ira recently spoke with WBUR’s “Here & Now” program, which you can listen to here. (And boy, I hope someone books a tour with Jonathan Richmond and that Yo La Tango band…)
• …And then he chatted with Spin…
